For the first time in 80 years, the US is changing its main adversary from Russia to China.
Pete Hegseth, Secretary of Defense, says the US military will be rebuilt to prepare for war. Its presence in Japan is increasing.
The G7 group opposes "any unilateral attempt to forcefully change the status quo of Taiwan", on the instructions of the White House. Beijing's goal, however, is not to attack the island; but to wait for it to weaken due to internal contradictions and then reunite peacefully.
The current economic conflict, which began with tariffs, aims to wear down China's defensive potential. The sanctions on Venezuela, a major supplier of oil to China, have this purpose. The re-appropriation of the Panama Canal is along the same lines.
Beijing has responded that it is ready for any war.

Stati Uniti e Cina in guerra economica, per ora
Per la prima volta negli ultimi 80 anni gli USA cambiano il proprio principale avversario dalla Russia alla Cina.
Pete Hegseth, segretario alla difesa, dice che l'esercito americano sarà ricostruito per prepararsi alla guerra. La sua presenza in Giappone va aumentando.
Il gruppo G7 si oppone a "qualsiasi tentativo unilaterale di cambiare con la forza lo status quo di Taiwan", su indicazione della Casa Bianca. L'obiettivo di Pechino però non è attaccare l'isola; ma aspettare che si indebolisca a causa delle contraddizioni interne e quindi riunirsi pacificamente.
L'attuale scontro economico, iniziato con i dazi, vuole sfiancare il potenziale difensivo cinese. Le sanzioni al Venezuela, forte fornitore di petrolio alla Cina, hanno questo scopo. La riappropriazione del canale di Panama è sulla stessa linea.
Pechino ha risposto di essere pronta a qualsiasi guerra.
Ha imposto tariffe di ritorsione sui prodotti agricoli, essendo gli agricoltori i migliori elettori di Trump. Ha revocato le licenze di importazione di gallio, germanio, antimonio, strategici per Washington.

Secondo il Pentagono, 200 navi militari pattugliano il Mar Cinese Meridionale, gli aerei della Marina e dell'Aeronautica toccano le 3.150 unità. La Marina ha più navi degli USA, tra cui 370 da guerra e sottomarini. Le sue forze armate, le più grandi del mondo, raggiungono i 658 milioni di soldati in attività.
