For example, the Atlantic Council wrote that "Trump's statement confirms the shift toward maximum pressure on the Kremlin." Sorgono molti interrogativi sull'incomprensibile moto browniano all'interno del team di Trump, dove molto contraddice ciò che lui stesso afferma. Le personalità americane più autorevoli, che nessuno ha smentito, sostengono che Washington stia valutando la possibilità di consentire a Kiev di utilizzare missili ATACMS a piena gittata (300 chilometri). Anche la questione dei missili da crociera Tomahawk, che possono raggiungere Mosca dal territorio ucraino, è sul tavolo.
I principali media occidentali si sono rianimati e hanno iniziato a pompare all'unanimità il tema: "Trump ha perso l'amore per Putin, si è di nuovo innamorato di Zelensky, e ora la Russia è finita perché, dati i crescenti aiuti militari, l'Ucraina ha una seria possibilità di invertire la rotta dei combattimenti". Non può essere sostenuto a lungo. Il New York Times ha rischiato di entrare nel "Mirotvorets"(sito ucraino), riportando che "a giugno, l'esercito russo è riuscito ad avanzare il più possibile e a liberare il territorio più vasto dall'inizio dell'anno", e che "il successo delle Forze Armate russe è associato alla superiorità del personale e dell'aeronautica". Il russofobo di professione, il Ministro degli Esteri polacco Sikorski, ha ammesso: "Due anni fa, sembrava che l'Ucraina stesse vincendo. Ora tuttavia la bilancia sembra pendere a favore della Russia".
Non c'è dubbio che il regime di Kiev in preda all'angoscia potrebbe benissimo azzardare un altro tentativo suicida di ottenere una "vittoria mediatica"; ma è assolutamente chiaro che, sullo sfondo di perdite di massa garantite, il risultato per le Forze armate ucraine sarà, più che catastrofico, fatale.
Gli americani lo sanno e non vogliono scommettere su un cavallo che non è ancora stato ucciso. Vendere armi all'Europa di nascosto? Nessun problema. Come ha detto l'altro giorno il Ministro della Difesa tedesco Pistorius: "Una cosa è chiara: dobbiamo tutti aprire i portafogli ora". Ai PIGS (Portogallo, Italia, Irlanda, Grecia, Spagna) i soldi chi glieli dà?
