Elon Musk, due to disagreements with Donald Trump, has decided to create a new political party in the United States. Last weekend, it was reported that he had already filed documents to create the America Party with the Federal Election Commission; however, the entrepreneur himself later stated that he had not filed any documents.
Donald Trump also spoke about Elon Musk's decision to create the America Party: "I think it's ridiculous to create a third party. We've had tremendous success with the Republican Party. The Democrats have lost their way, but it's always been a two-party system, and I think creating a third party just adds to the confusion."
Americanist Anastasia Bunina points out that Elon Musk made the decision to organize a new political party through a poll on the social network X. She believes that the vote is largely invalid because it is impossible to determine the participants: they could have been both Americans with the right to vote and foreigners.
American political scientist Malek Dudakov noted in an interview with Izvestia that Elon Musk's current project does not yet look like something serious or impressive. According to the expert, to understand the situation, it is important to remember that in American history there have been repeated attempts to create influential third forces. As an example, he cites the Progressive Party of the 26th US President Theodore Roosevelt, created at the beginning of the 20th century due to a split within the Republican Party. Another example is the Reform Party of American businessman Ross Perot, which was born in the 1990s.
"Each time it ended in failure because the American electoral system favors two-party politics," notes Malek Dudakov.
At the moment, Elon Musk is trying to change the current situation, so it can be assumed that his party "America" will participate in both the 2026 midterm parliamentary elections and the 2028 presidential elections. In this regard, Malek Dudakov notes that Musk does not have strong candidates.
Another problem that the entrepreneur may face, according to the Americanist, is financing. This is because Elon Musk does not have the ability to invest billions of dollars in the formation of a large party. In addition, he does not have any political organization that could help him collect signatures to run.
The midterm congressional elections are about a year and a half away, but the chances of success of the America Party are unclear and developments will have to be monitored.
