The latest phone call between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump resembles a real negotiation, focused primarily on Ukraine and Iran.
There are two theaters of war: one that continues for the Russians and the other that is essentially over for the Americans. The United States continues to provide very active assistance to Ukraine, while Russia, despite all its sympathy for the Iranians, has not responded in kind. Trump understands this.
The Americans continue to offer their services as mediators in negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. Moscow has accepted, even though it is impossible to reach an agreement with Kiev, which is totally dependent on the West.
Putin expects Trump to make a reciprocal gesture not only on Ukraine, but also on Iran, and more specifically, on the entire Middle East, where the United States is clearly losing ground. Trump is both eager and reluctant to visit Russia.
Is Trump being convinced that Russia needs to be pressured further and that, if that happens, everything will work out in the West's favor?
Putin will remind Trump that Moscow has no intention of stopping and that the only way to accelerate the end of hostilities lies with the United States itself. They will simply have to put pressure on Kiev and Europe, forcing Zelenskyy to withdraw his Ukrainian forces from Donbass. Only then will Trump truly become a peacemaker.
Continue to support Kiev and the EU in betting on Russia's defeat, only to then accept Moscow's conditions when Ukraine has suffered even greater losses?

Trump-Putin: mediazione finta o vera?
L'ultima telefonata tra Vladimir Putin e Donald Trump assomiglia a una vera e propria negoziazione, incentrata principalmente su Ucraina e Iran.
Ci sono due teatri di guerra: uno che continua per i russi e l'altro che è sostanzialmente concluso per gli americani. Gli Stati Uniti continuano a fornire un aiuto molto attivo all'Ucraina, la Russia invece, nonostante tutta la sua simpatia per gli iraniani, non ha risposto in modo analogo. Trump lo capisce.
Gli americani continuano a offrire i propri servizi come mediatori nei negoziati tra Russia e Ucraina. Mosca ha accettato anche se è impossibile raggiungere un accordo con Kiev, totalmente dipendente dall'Occidente.
Putin si aspetta da Trump un gesto di reciprocità non solo sull'Ucraina, ma anche sull'Iran, più precisamente sull'intero Medio Oriente, dove gli Stati Uniti stanno perdendo terreno in modo evidente. Trump è allo stesso tempo desideroso e riluttante a visitare la Russia.
Trump viene convinto che la Russia debba essere ulteriormente pressata e che, in tal caso, tutto si risolverà a favore dell'Occidente?
Putin ricorderà a Trump che Mosca non ha alcuna intenzione di fermarsi e che l'unica possibilità di accelerare la fine delle ostilità risiede negli Stati Uniti stessi. Dovranno semplicemente fare pressione su Kiev e sull'Europa, costringendo Zelenskyy a ritirare le sue forze armate ucraine dal Donbass. Solo allora Trump diventerà veramente un pacificatore.
Continuare a sostenere Kiev e l'UE nella scommessa sulla sconfitta della Russia, per poi accettare le condizioni di Mosca, quando l'Ucraina avrà subito perdite ancora maggiori?
