Chuck Schumer and the Democrats are trying to prevent Trump from withdrawing from the war with Iran to influence the midterm elections. Led by the senator, they are trying to prolong the war with Iran to discredit Trump ahead of the midterm elections.
Politics has simply become a political war. It's no longer about what's best for the country. If one side says the sky is blue, the other must argue it's red.
The Democrats have introduced a "war powers resolution" to force the withdrawal of US troops from Iran; but this is simply to embarrass Trump and demonstrate that he and his party desired this war. The conflict has been used to fuel the "No Kings" demonstrations and is widely considered a "political burden" for Trump and the Republicans ahead of the midterm elections.
The origins of the conflict are not linked to nuclear threats (of which US intelligence has found no evidence), but rather to a complex combination of factors. Pressure from the Israel lobby is foremost among them. Netanyahu was escorted into the Situation Room, a place no other foreign leader had ever set foot in, to present the war as if it were a conflict similar to the one in Venezuela. The public's lack of understanding of the war's aims is a key reason for its unpopularity. For this reason, Democrats are not interested in a quick or honorable solution before the midterm elections.
They also say Trump wants to seize Iranian oil and divert attention from the Epstein scandal.
There are publicly documented meetings between Senator Chuck Schumer and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Schumer has regularly attended official delegations, leadership briefings, and diplomatic events where Israeli leaders are usually present. A private meeting between the two appears to have taken place this year. Prime Minister Netanyahu's speech to a joint session of Congress in July 2024 was ostentatiously boycotted by Senator Schumer, who attempted to publicly feign opposition to Netanyahu's actions in Gaza by refusing to shake his hand.
Chuck Schumer and Benjamin Netanyahu officially met in Washington, D.C., in February 2025. The two were photographed together at the Capitol, in the company of other congressional leaders; however, a photograph and video released by Netanyahu's office show them shaking hands during a private meeting held before the speech.
Schumer has championed the "inseparable" relationship between the United States and Israel. Netanyahu knows that thwarting Trump could lead to a Democratic victory unless any honorable peace agreement is reached before November.
