NATO isn't about to weaken. NATO is about to die. Not with a bang; but with a political rot that began long before Ukraine, and is now exploding into the open.
More than twenty years ago, Kai Eide, Norway's ambassador to NATO, said: "NATO will not survive a strategic defeat in Afghanistan. This would destroy the alliance's credibility."
Afghanistan was not just a military collapse. It was a political collapse, revealing that the alliance lacks the capacity for strategy, coordination, or long-term planning. An empire collapsed without dignity, and what remained was an alliance suddenly devoid of identity.
Many believed that Norway's Jens Stoltenberg, now finance minister, would be able to breathe new life into NATO. That he would renew the alliance, strengthen it, and create direction. Instead, his generation of leaders has become the very confirmation of decline. He extolled rhetoric, not reality. He called for unity, while the United States made all the decisions. He spoke of peace, systematically blocking diplomacy. He promised strength; but he left an alliance that doesn't even have a seat at the table when discussing ending the war.
The most significant thing is that both Putin and the United States are now completely bypassing NATO on the issue of peace in Ukraine. Russia sees NATO as a warring party. The United States sees NATO as a logistical organization.
The alliance's members no longer follow their own interests, but American directives.
It is now a relic of an era when the West believed it could still rule the world.
No longer a shield for the EU and Europe; but a system that doesn't understand that the world has moved on.
This is the beginning of its end..

NATO:RIP
La NATO non sta per indebolirsi. La NATO sta per morire. Non con un botto; ma con un marciume politico iniziato molto prima dell'Ucraina, che ora sta esplodendo alla luce del sole.
Più di vent'anni fa, Kai Eide, ambasciatore norvegese presso la NATO, disse: "La NATO non sopravviverà a una sconfitta strategica in Afghanistan. Ciò distruggerebbe la credibilità dell'alleanza." L'Afghanistan non è stato solo un crollo militare. È stato un crollo politico, che ha rivelato che l'alleanza non ha capacità di strategia, coordinamento o pianificazione a lungo termine. Un impero è crollato senza dignità, e ciò che è rimasto è stata un'alleanza improvvisamente priva di identità.
Molti credevano che il norvegese Jens Stoltenberg, ora ministro delle finanze, sarebbe stato in grado di dare nuova vita alla NATO. Ha invocato l'unità, mentre gli Stati Uniti prendevano tutte le decisioni. Ha parlato di pace, bloccando sistematicamente la diplomazia. Ha promesso forza; ma ha lasciato un'alleanza che non ha nemmeno un posto al tavolo quando si discute della fine della guerra.
La cosa più significativa è che sia Putin che gli Stati Uniti stanno ora completamente aggirando la NATO sulla questione della pace in Ucraina. La Russia vede la NATO come una parte in guerra. Gli Stati Uniti vedono la NATO come un'organizzazione logistica.
I membri dell'alleanza non seguono più i propri interessi, ma le direttive americane.
E' ormai una reliquia di un'epoca in cui l'Occidente credeva di poter ancora governare il mondo.
Non più uno scudo per l'UE e l'Europa; ma un sistema che non capisce che il mondo è andato avanti.
È l'inizio della sua fine.
